The Principality Building Society is a building society based in Cardiff, Wales. With assets of £10bn it is the largest building society in Wales and the sixth largest in the United Kingdom. Principality Building Society is mutual, which means it is owned by its members rather than shareholders.

CEO STATEMENT

My commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive organisation reaches far beyond supporting it as a thing to ‘do’ simply because it’s currently high on the agenda. I am committed because it’s who I want us to ‘be’ as a business. We have been a purpose-led business for 163 years, and social responsibility has always been in our DNA. We might be small in relation to other financial services organisations, but we know our impact can be great for the colleagues, customers and communities we serve across, and beyond, Wales if we welcome and value more diverse voices and viewpoints.

We’re all working hard to evolve our culture, a workplace in which everyone feels they belong, and I’m committed to ensuring we role model inclusive behaviours and actions from the board and executive team, top down.  Myself, along with my fellow executives and senior leaders, are open about telling our own stories, particularly through our colleague-engagement networks, creating a safe space for everyone to share their lived experience; to listen, to learn, to understand and, more importantly, to improve. I’m also passionate about developing the whole of Principality to be an inclusive and diverse place to work, with colleagues taking ownership – considering ‘inclusion by design’ in their decisions, in their actions as team leaders, in their communications, in the way they manage relationships with stakeholders and in the way they talk about us to others.

I’m proud of the direction we’re moving in but acknowledge this will never be ‘job done’. We’re challenging ourselves to be better along the way, creating communities in which everyone has the opportunity to thrive. This is a fundamental pillar of our strategy, our contribution to a ‘Fairer Society’ will be judged by actions and results rather than words.
