In recognition of this year’s theme, “Disability Livelihood and Employment,” this webinar aims to deepen Disability History awareness within our network and provide insights into the current state and future of disability inclusion in the workplace. The recent government mandate on Disability Pay Gap reporting has sparked conversations, with many anticipating positive change through increased transparency, while others express concerns about its implications. This session will delve into the historical context of the disability pay gap, examine systemic barriers to fair wages, and explore the contributions and advocacy of disabled individuals in the workforce.

Key Takeaways and Lessons:

  • Historical Roots of the Disability Pay Gap: Understanding the factors that have led to wage disparities for disabled workers.
  • Systemic Barriers to Fair Employment: Identify the persistent obstacles disabled individuals face in the workforce.
  • Contribution Recognition: Celebrate the significant influence disabled individuals have had across industries, even in the face of discrimination and exclusion.
  • The Impact of Disability Pay Gap Reporting: Insights into what this new mandate means for organisations, the transparency it can foster, and the possible reputational implications.
  • The Role of Disabled Activists: Learn about the critical role disabled activists have played in disability rights and trade union movements, setting a foundation for modern disability inclusion.
  • Actionable Inclusion Strategies: Practical ways organisations can implement policies and adjustments to support an inclusive, equitable workplace.
